Workshop Recap: Solar Applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)

SETO hosted a two-day workshop on the solar applications of AI and ML. Check out the various presentations and take-aways from this exciting event.

The workshop covered four solar applications of AI and ML, including:

  • Forecasting, materials synthesis, data imputation, and power flow optimization
  • Classification-related problems, including anomaly direction in operations and cybersecurity
  • Dealing with large datasets, including the challenges they present in research and development contexts
  • Funding agency operations, including the use of generative AI and Large Language Models

New Study on Residential Solar+Storage

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory just published a report that analyzes the evolving role of solar+storage for home backup power. The analysis shows how required storage sizing changes as homes become more efficient, flexible, and electrified. Check out a presentation on the new report for more information on solar+storage in the United States.

Apply to the 2024 Hands-On Photovoltaic Experience (HOPE) Workshop

Attention PhD students and professors in photovoltaics (PV): Applications are now open for the 12th HOPE Workshop. This workshop provides opportunities for graduate students and their professors to interact with scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and learn about PV technology in a hands-on, small group setting. Apply by February 15, 2024.

Summary: Performance Data for Solar PV Systems – Acquisitions, Access, and Sharing

In 2022, SETO released an RFI to get feedback from various stakeholders on PV performance data acquisition, access, and sharing. SETO received and reviewed 14 responses and has summarized the feedback.

Submit Feedback About Proposed Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) Regulations

The Internal Revenue Service is accepting public comments on proposed regulations impacting the ITC, which includes federal solar energy tax credits. Submit feedback by January 22, 2024.
